Earlier today, it was announced via press release that the next video game in the Star Wars franchise would be a Free-to-Play online space combat game called Star Wars: Attack Squadron.
According to the game’s official website, Attack Squadron will pit players in “high velocity 16 player dogfights in fabled Star Wars locations.” The game will feature three PVP modes:
- Free-for-all: fight in 16 player deathmatches
- Team dogfight: team up and take on your enemy team
- Base Defense: Either coordinate an attack on an enemy base, or lead the assault on one
Players will also be able to customize iconic Star Wars ships, including the X-wing fighter and the Empire’s TIE Interceptor. No word yet on how many ships will be available overall, or at launch, but according to a post on the Star Wars website “future ships, environments and game details will be announced in the coming weeks.”
Developed by Area 52, in conjunction with Disney Interactive and LucasArts, Attack Squadron has started to accept Beta test invites, with the first sessions starting in the new year.
