March Madness: Is This the Best Gaming Month of the Year?

2013-03-04_00045

I hope you’ve been saving your money, because the month of March is here, and it brings with it a slew of games that demand your attention. Good luck not spending any money… Whether you role-playing games, action games, simulation games, or even sports games, March has something new in store(s) for you.

Today, March 5, is one of the biggest days of the month. Two huge names released today are Tomb Raider and SimCity, interestingly enough, two games that are “rebooting” and have returned to a simple first-name-only naming system (SimCity, instead of SimCity 5). Early reviews of both have them as possible contenders for game of the year, and while it is certainly early to be throwing down that gauntlet, they are possibly two of the most highly regarded – and anticipated games released so far this year.

At the time of this writing I haven’t had my hands on either of them long enough to give any kind of early impressions, but stay tuned to The Quest Gaming Network this week as Shank and I will give our initial impressions of Tomb Raider, and I’ll be blabbering on and on for SimCity for months.

Additionally today, PS3 and Vita owners are being treated to the next installment of the MLB: The Show franchise. As much as sports games get trashed for doing basically the same thing every year with updated rosters and still charging full price, MLB:TS games have largely been well received over the years, and the game is one of the most robust and complete packages compared to other sports franchises. MLB 13: The Show has some new game modes, camera angles, commentary, and revamped Road to the Show and Franchise modes. While Sony hurt a few feelings by not making this game cross-buy between the PS3 and Vita (as it was last year), the game has the makings to be the best baseball game of 2013.

Let’s not forget that while today is big, the month of March is set to be epic. Later this month we’ll see the arrival of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, God of War: Ascension, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, Gears of War: Judgment, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14, BioShock Infinite, and of course, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity. And this is only a small sample of the long list of games that people are clamoring to get their hands on. If you’re a gamer, you’d be wise to not sleep through March, as you’ll be missing a ton.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on gaming in the month of March. What big title are you most looking forward to? Or maybe none of these capture your attention and you’ll still be playing something else? Chime in below, and stay tuned for more from The Quest Gaming Network.

Game on my friends.
